Pelican Point Seal & Sandwich Harbour Tour

Pelican Point Seal and Sandwich Harbour is a coastal tour that combines time on the ocean with travel through desert dunes. It brings together marine wildlife viewing and dune exploration in one experience. The tour is available as a half day option of about four hours or a full day option of about eight hours.

The tour starts in Walvis Bay and focuses on some of Namibia’s best known coastal areas. You meet your guide at the Walvis Bay Lagoon and board either a catamaran or an open boat. The cruise takes you out onto the Atlantic Ocean, where marine life is often active.

During the cruise, you may see Cape Fur Seals swimming around the boat. Some seals are curious and may climb onto the deck for a short visit. Dolphins are sometimes seen swimming nearby, and on rare days whales or sunfish may appear further out at sea. Birdlife is also common, with pelicans, cormorants, and flamingos flying over the lagoon or resting on the water.

While on board, guests are served fresh oysters, sparkling wine, and light snacks. The guide shares information about the animals, birdlife, and the coastal environment throughout the cruise. After returning to shore, the second part of the Pelican Point Seal and Sandwich Harbour tour begins.

You continue by vehicle along the coastline toward Sandwich Harbour. This section includes driving over steep dunes and along the edge of the ocean. An experienced guide is needed to safely navigate the sand and changing conditions. The views over the lagoon, dunes, and ocean offer good photo opportunities.

Depending on tide levels, the drive may follow the beach before turning inland through dune corridors. The route can change from day to day to ensure safe access. On full day tours, the experience often ends at a quiet viewpoint overlooking the dunes, where drinks and snacks are served as the day comes to a close.

Important things to know include bringing a light jacket or windbreaker, as coastal winds are common. Binoculars and a camera are useful for wildlife viewing. A hat, sunscreen, and sunglasses are recommended for sun protection.
